1962 Doubled Die Obverse DDO-004

Description

Fourth in the doubled die obverse catalog for the 1962 Proof Roosevelt Dime, DDO-004 exhibits a light spread on the date, on John R. Sinnock's JS designer initials oriented top to bottom, and on the word TRUST. Light classification means the secondary hub impression closely overlaps the primary, producing subtle extra thickness that benefits from the proof finish's mirror fields and frosted devices. The affected elements cluster in the lower obverse — the date and designer initials sit near the truncation while TRUST forms the right end of the motto — suggesting a displacement vector concentrated in that region. Roosevelt Dime proofs of 1962 were struck at Philadelphia in 90% silver, among the final silver-composition proof dimes before the 1965 transition to copper-nickel clad. Die markers include UVC-811 and DMR-011. Three die stages are documented: Stage A records both obverse and reverse at Early Die State, while Stage B at Mid Die State and Stage C at Late Die State remain unconfirmed. The unconfirmed later stages suggest most examined specimens come from early production runs, leaving the die's terminal characteristics available for future study.
