1962 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1962 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1962 proof Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A very light spread toward the center appears on the lettering around the rim, clearest on STATES OF AMERICA. Obverse Stage A: a scratch runs SSW from the lower right of GOD's D, scratches run SW from where the nostril meets the upper lip, and a N/S gouge sits centered on the left of TRUST's last T. On Obverse Stage B only the gouge at that T remains; the rest are abraded away. Reverse Stage A: a die chip sits left of center on the left leg of AMERICA's M, another sits on the F's leg in OF just under its lower horizontal bar, and an E/W scratch crosses the bottom of the vertical bar of STATES's second T. On Reverse Stage B the doubling on the letters is weaker, and the Stage A markers are still present. Whaden Curtis submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
