1962 Proof Lincoln Memorial Cent - PR-1DER-001T Trail Die Reverse
Error
Description
1962PR-1DER-001T places its trails at the F of the designer's initials, FG, to the lower right of the Memorial, and they run at 110°, east-southeast, toward the right edge and slightly down. TrailDies' code reads as a 1962 proof (1962PR), one cent (1), reverse design extension (DER), file 001 and trails (T). Neither side of the stage B coin described has a die marker, so the short run of lines off that single initial is what to look for. Robert M. Pelletier is credited with finding it. The usual account is that trails form when the die is polished with a rotary tool, with die-to-hub movement as a less common explanation.
Die Markers
- Stage “B“, obverse is MDS – none noted.
