Description

Light spread with extra thickness on all rim lettering defines this 1962-D Washington Quarter doubled die reverse. The doubling affects UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, QUARTER DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM, producing uniformly thickened letterforms around the entire reverse rim. Die markers UVC-1025 and DMR-012 anchor the attribution. Three die stages track this die: Stage A at Early Die State remains unconfirmed, Stage B at Mid Die State shows a die crack across the bust, and Stage C at Late Die State is unconfirmed. The MDS die crack provides a secondary diagnostic beyond the doubling, helping collectors determine which stage their specimen represents. Denver Mint Washington Quarters from 1962 were struck in 90% silver, part of the final years before the Coinage Act of 1965 ended silver content in circulating quarters.
