Description

Sharing a D/D North orientation with RPM-011 — and possibly sharing the same obverse die — the 1962-D Lincoln Memorial Cent RPM-014 exhibits the secondary mintmark impression displaced northward, creating a visible doubling at the top of the primary "D" mintmark. VarietyVista catalogers have flagged the potential die match between these two entries, noting that confirmation requires a mid-die state specimen capable of bridging the gap in documented die characteristics; until such a specimen surfaces, RPM-011 and RPM-014 remain separate catalog entries. Like RPM-013, this variety documents an obverse die that outlasted its initial reverse partner and was subsequently paired with a replacement reverse, generating two die marriage records. The first marriage, UVC-869 / DMR-019, begins with Stage A in early die state (EDS), though this stage remains unconfirmed. Stage B introduces a small die gouge off the chin below Lincoln's lower lip and a die chip on lower column #12, placing the die in late-to-mid die state (LMDS). The second marriage, UVC-870 / DMR-020, documents Stage C where a very light die crack runs north-south through the hair adjacent to Lincoln's forehead — a sign of advanced die fatigue — while the replacement reverse begins in early die state (EDS). The hair die crack is a particularly telling diagnostic: its vertical orientation through the bust's hairline places it in a high-relief area where die stress concentrates, and its appearance coincides with the reverse die change, suggesting that both the obverse and the original reverse were approaching the end of their useful lives simultaneously. Collectors pursuing the question of whether RPM-011 and RPM-014 originate from the same die should compare the forehead die crack and chin gouge across specimens attributed to both listings.

D/D North.  Possibly the same die as RPM-011.  Need a MDS to confirm.
