1961 Proof Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-009

Description

1961 WDDO-009 is a doubled die obverse on the 1961 proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. An extremely close spread toward the center appears on LIBERTY, the date and IN GOD WE TRUST. On the obverse, scratches run along the rim all the way around, a gouge lies under the last T in TRUST, gouges sit on the bottom of the queue, a large gouge lies between the B and E in LIBERTY, and there is a gouge near the rim, to the left of LIBERTY's L. On the reverse, cracks follow the rim on the eagle's right side, under the U and TE of UNITED; a gouge sits at the rim at about 8:30; another gouge lies at the rim over the M in AMERICA, toward its left side; large gouges sit at the rim under DOLLAR; and a NE/SW scratch crosses the tail feathers.
