1961 Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006
ErrorDescription
Exhibiting a clockwise pivoted hub doubling with the pivot point at approximately the 3 o'clock position, the 1961 Proof Roosevelt Dime WDDR-006 shows spread on UNITED STATES that decreases from left to right, and also on E PLUR of E PLURIBUS UNUM. The clockwise rotation around the 3 o'clock pivot explains the decreasing spread pattern: letters on the left side of UNITED STATES sit farther from the pivot axis and undergo greater angular displacement, while letters on the right sit closer and show progressively less separation. The same rotational geometry affects E PLUR, which falls within the arc of noticeable displacement. No significant die markers have been noted on either side, meaning attribution relies primarily on identifying the characteristic clockwise spread pattern across the affected inscriptions. Attributed by the Wexler Team under variety ID 1961 10c Pr WDDR-006, no cross-references to other attribution systems are currently known. As a proof issue, this coin was struck at the Philadelphia Mint on polished planchets, producing mirror fields and frosted design elements on John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt obverse and torch-olive-oak reverse. Struck in 90% silver at 2.5 grams. Examine UNITED STATES for spread decreasing left to right, and E PLUR for consistent clockwise displacement.
