1961 (D) Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001 / DDR-001

Description

Cross-referenced as the Fivaz-Stanton listing FS-801, the 1961-D Roosevelt dime DDR-001, which Wexler numbers WDDR-001, is a doubled die reverse. Wexler writes the Cherrypickers number as FS-10-1961D-801 (015.8). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a CCW spread pivoting at 1:00 on ONE DIME, UNITED STATES, AMERICA and E PLURIBUS UNUM. At obverse stage A a light scratch runs north from the 6 of the date; at stage B that scratch is gone and a gouge appears below the second T of TRUST, left of its upright. At reverse stage A a gouge (dot) sits in the field below the first U of UNUM, centered over the ME of DIME, and light scratches rise north off the flame and cross the base of the E of STATES. At reverse stage B a gouge lies between the flame and the second S of STATES, and a scratch runs from the left leg of the M of DIME to the rim. Joe Feld submitted stage A and Frank Baumann stage B. CONECA lists the die as 1-R-V. VarietyVista, crediting Timothy Wissert, records a medium spread on UNITED and ONE DIME, lighter on STATES OF AMERICA, the E PLU of PLURIBUS, and UNUM. Under its marker codes UVC-376 and DMR-002, stage A is an early die state it has not confirmed, and at stage B both sides are in a middle die state. At stage C, a late die state, metal flow lines make the doubling mushy and a light crack runs NE in the hair.
