1960 Proof Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1960 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1960 proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong Class VI spread toward the center appears on the eagle's tail feathers, both wings, the wreath, QUARTER DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM and UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. Wexler notes no obverse markers. On the reverse, a horizontal gouge lies just left of the leaves, on the right wing; near the back of the eagle's head there is a gouge (dot); another gouge (dot) sits on the left wing just over the top right leaf; two scratches lie on the upright of the second T in STATES; and a gouge sits at the center of the arrow feathers. Gary Wagnon submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
