Description

Notably a COMBO variety pairing both a doubled die obverse and doubled die reverse on the same die marriage, this 1960 Proof Washington Quarter carries dual attributions as WDDO-005 and WDDR-005. COMBO varieties are uncommon because they require two independently flawed dies to be paired together. Struck in 90% silver at Philadelphia as a proof issue, the obverse shows very close Class II spread towards center on IN GOD WE TRUST, LIBERTY, and 19 in the date, with a die scratch running southwest-northeast between the 9 and 6 as a diagnostic. The reverse carries its own strong hub doubling: extra thickness plus separation lines on USA, QUARTER DOLLAR, E PLURIBUS UNUM, leaves, and branches, with a vertical die scratch on the upper neck of the eagle. The convergence of two doubled dies in a single proof marriage from the final years of silver quarter production makes this compelling for advanced Washington Quarter specialists and proof variety collectors alike.
