A very close spread toward the center on the branch ends, lower leaves, AMERICA, and QUARTER DOLLAR marks WDDR-001 as the primary doubled die reverse for the 1960 Proof Washington Quarter. Attributed by the Wexler Team with variety ID 1960 25¢ Pr WDDR-001, the reverse carries a diagnostic small die gouge between the lower S and T in STATES, while no significant obverse markers have been noted. The centerward spread produces subtle extra thickness and notching on the inner edges of the affected design elements — detectable under magnification but requiring careful examination due to the close nature of the displacement. The 1960 Proof Washington Quarter was struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 90% silver, and as WDDR-001, this was the first documented doubled die reverse for the date's proof issue.
