1959 VDDO VDDO-007
Error
Description
Exhibiting light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, this 1959 Washington Quarter VDDO-007 develops a notable die crack in the hair at Stage B, providing an important diagnostic for die state attribution. The UVC and DMR codes remain pending assignment. Three die stages are documented: Stage A in early die state (unconfirmed); Stage B with the obverse at mid-die state showing a die crack in the hair and the reverse also at mid-die state; and Stage C in late die state (unconfirmed). Die cracks on Washington Quarter obverses commonly develop in the hair area where the relief is highest and the die experiences the greatest striking stress. The crack's appearance at mid-die state offers collectors a secondary confirmation point beyond the light doubling itself — if both the motto spread and the hair crack are present, the coin is almost certainly from this specific die. The 1959 Philadelphia issue continued the standard silver composition that would end after 1964, and light doubled die varieties from this era reward patient collectors who examine the motto under magnification.
