1959-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Featuring a D/D/D East, Southeast triple-punched mintmark, this VarietyVista-documented 1959-D Washington Silver Quarter from the Denver Mint records three separate punch applications. Die markers UVC-0946 / DMR-005: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a strong die crack southeast through PLURIBUS to eagle's left wing at LDS, a die crack through lower RIC of AMERICA, a die crack down eagle's right wing, and a die crack across forehead and hair at LDS. The four distinct die cracks at Stage C, spanning both obverse and reverse, document catastrophic late-life structural failure. Struck in 90% silver and 10% copper at 6.25 grams and 24.3 mm, the 1959-D is from the penultimate year of silver quarter production. The triple D/D/D East and Southeast displacement documents three distinct angular punch contacts at the Denver facility.
