1958-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-023
Error
Description
Bearing a D/D Rotated CW displacement from the final year of Victor David Brenner's wheat ears reverse, this VarietyVista-documented 1958-D Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks five stages across three die pairings. Die markers UVC-3340 / DMR-028: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with obverse at LMDS, die break on stem and right crossbar of T of CENT at LMDS, and die chip outside left wheat lines. UVC-3352 / DMR-029: Stage D with a die crack north-south in hair at LDS, reverse die changed at LDS, and die crack in upper left wheat grains. UVC-3421 / DMR-030: Stage E with obverse at LDS and another reverse die change at EDS. The three reverse die changes document this obverse surviving two reverse partners, evidence of mintmark punch varieties outlasting their paired dies. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, RPM-023 is one of many Denver varieties from the prolific 1958 terminal date.
