Recorded by VarietyVista with die identifiers UVC-1142 and DMR-024, the 1958-D RPM-021 Lincoln Wheat Cent displays a D/D repunched mintmark displaced to the north — the secondary D punch was placed directly above the initial impression, leaving a remnant of the first D visible below the final corrected position. The northward shift represents one of the simpler directional displacements, where the punch moved along a single axis rather than combining lateral and vertical components. Die stage documentation records Stage A with both obverse and reverse confirmed at early die state (EDS), Stage B at mid-die-state (MDS, unconfirmed), and Stage C at late die state (LDS, unconfirmed). With at least twenty-one cataloged RPM varieties, the 1958-D Lincoln Wheat Cent ranks among the most prolific dates for repunched mintmarks in the entire wheat cent series, reflecting the enormous production volume at the Denver Mint during the final year of wheat ears reverse coinage. The 1958-D cent was struck in 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, weighing 3.11 grams at 19.05 mm diameter. Victor David Brenner's Lincoln portrait on the obverse and the wheat ears reverse were both in their fiftieth and final year of combined service, as 1959 would bring Frank Gasparro's Lincoln Memorial reverse.
