1958-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-006

Description

RPM-006 on the 1958 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent — the final year of the Wheat Cent reverse — shows the D mintmark punched over a previous D rotated clockwise (D/D Rotated CW), attributed by VarietyVista. Die markers: UVC-593 and DMR-009. Stage A shows the obverse in early die state with die scratches running North-South on the upper portion of the die. The Wheat Cent reverse, introduced with the Lincoln cent series in 1909, was replaced by the Lincoln Memorial design in 1959, making all 1958 Wheat Cent varieties last-year-of-type issues. The Denver Mint struck the 1958-D in standard 95% copper composition. The clockwise rotation of the secondary D impression provides a directionally specific diagnostic distinct from straight-shift or North/South RPM types on this date, and the obverse North-South die scratches in Stage A are a strong positional marker. RPM-006 adds to the VarietyVista-attributed census of D-mint Wheat Cent RPMs in the 1958 terminal year of the design.
