1958-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-003

Description

From the terminal year of Brenner's wheat ears reverse, this VarietyVista-documented 1958-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-003 from the Denver Mint progresses through five die stages with detailed surface tracking. Die markers UVC-590 / DMR-006: Stage A with light die scratches east-west behind head and light die scratches north-south on reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at EMDS and a small die chip on the right crossbar of T of CENT at EMDS; Stage C with obverse die scratches almost worn away at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage D with a die gouge through G of GOD at LMDS, die crack north-south in hair, and die chip on stem of the T of CENT at LMDS; Stage E at LDS (unconfirmed). The gradual disappearance of the early die scratches concurrent with the emergence of new die gouges and cracks documents the transition from original surface artifacts to stress-induced deterioration. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
