1957 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 / DDO-001

Description

1957 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1957 proof Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team and by VarietyVista as DDO-001. Both catalogs cite it as FS-101 in the Cherrypickers' Guide (Wexler writes FS-10-1957-101). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes a close triple spread toward the center on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date, the designer's initials and the hair details on top of the head. On the obverse a vertical gouge lies in the hair a little west of the part and a chip sits on the 9 of the date. On the reverse a chip lies in the field left of center from the first A of AMERICA. Istvan Henrik submitted the coin, and CONECA lists the die as 1-O-II. VarietyVista records a medium spread on IN GOD WE TRUST, the designer's initials (top to bottom) and the date, and does not name a reporter. Under its marker codes UVC-292 and DMR-003, stage A is an early die state it has not confirmed. At stage B, a middle die state on both sides, a gouge appears in the upper hair. At stage C both sides are in a late die state.
