1957 Proof Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-004

Description

1957 WDDR-004 is a doubled die reverse on the 1957 proof Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. All letters show extra thickness with slight separation, and the oak branch stem shows close tripling. On the obverse, a scratch lies on the rim under WE, two large gouges mark the neck, and a large curved gouge sits left of the ear. The reverse has die pitting through AMERICA and an irregular scratch on the rim over UNITED. A NE/SW scratch sits on the lower right corner of ONE's N, and close to the right dot many short scratches lie at the rim. Two gouges sit under the R in PLURIBUS, and another gouge lies near the oak leaves over UNUM's last U. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
