Description

Class II + VI, Distorted and Distended Hub Doubling     "Best Of" Nickel Doubled Die VarietiesThis variety is a quintupled die.  Five distinct images can be seen on the lower portion of I of IN.  Strong extra thickness and some separation of images show on IN GOD WE TRUST where it decreases from left to right, Jefferson’s profile and, to a lesser extent, on LIBERTY, the star, the date and Jefferson’s queue. Die Markers: Obverse: Small die gouge (dot) at top of L of LIBERTY; short vertical die gouge in hair midway between nose and back of head. Reverse: Small die gouge (dot) below right side of M of UNUM.
