Description
The 1956 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1956 Proof Jefferson Nickel, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: Stage A: Die scratch above and between R and T of LIBERTY; die scratch above Y of LIBERTY and star; die gouge below front portion of Jefferson's collar. Stage B: Same as above. Reverse: Stage A: No DDR. Three slanted die scratches to left of large center semi-circular window. Stage B: Listed as WDDR-020.
