Description
1955PR-5DER-001T is a 1955 proof Jefferson nickel reverse whose trails leave the tops of the letters of FIVE CENTS and STATES OF AMERICA, along with the upper left corner of Monticello, all at 320°, northwest, up and to the left. The code reads 1955, PR for proof, 5 for the five-cent coin, DER for design extension reverse, 001 for the file and T for trails. No markers are noted for the middle-state coin TrailDies describes. Robert M. Pelletier found the die. The marks are normally traced to polishing of the die with a rotary buff; a minority view holds that the die moved against the hub.
