1955 Proof Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-009

Description

1955 WDDR-009 is a doubled die reverse on the 1955 proof Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. E PLURIBUS UNUM, the two dots, the wheat ears and stems on both sides, and the upper parts of ONE's letters show a strong Class II spread toward the center. On the obverse, a WSW-ENE scratch runs just under the bow tie, and circular scratches turn around a point centered on the neck. On the reverse, a strong scratch heads SW from the rim, starting above UNUM's N on its left side; a gouge lies on ONE's E, midway down its left side; and a nearly N-S scratch crosses the top center of the crossbar of CENT's T. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 3-R-II. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
