1955 Proof Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-006

Description

1955 WDDR-006 is a doubled die reverse on the 1955 proof Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class II tripled spread toward the center shows on E PLURIBUS UNUM, both dots, both upper wheat ears and both stems, and the upper parts of ONE and OF AMERICA are doubled. Obverse markers: circular scratches radiate across the bust, centered on the neck, and a short diagonal scratch lies under the G of GOD, on its left side. Reverse markers: a short vertical gouge just left of the top of the E in E PLURIBUS UNUM; a gouge (dot) inside the bottom of the N in ONE; a dot between the first T and the A of STATES, with another over the left side of the second T; and a small dot above the C of AMERICA, toward its right side. Michael Ellis submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
