1955-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-010

Description

Exhibiting a D/D/D Northeast, Southwest triple-punched displacement, this VarietyVista-documented 1955-D Lincoln Wheat Cent is unusual for the vertical bar visibility changing between stages. Die markers UVC-542 / DMR-012: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with no vertical bar visible on the northeast secondary mintmark at MDS, a die scratch northeast through the last 5 of date, and a die clash on N of CENT at MDS; Stage C with the vertical bar now visible on the northeast secondary mintmark at LDS, a die chip in the upper first 5 of date, and reverse at LDS. The vertical bar emerging at LDS likely reflects differential wear exposing deeper punch impressions. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, this Denver Mint issue shares its date with the famous 1955 Philadelphia doubled die obverse.
