Description
One of the more complex repunched mintmark varieties documented for the 1954-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, RPM-005 is cataloged under UVC-511 and DMR-006 and represents a triple D/D/D punch: the mintmark was struck three times, with both the second and third punches rotated counter-clockwise relative to the primary impression. This two-stage rotational repunching makes RPM-005 significantly more visually striking than a conventional double punch, as three overlapping D impressions are visible under magnification. The combination of repeated CCW rotation produces a characteristic layered pattern around the primary mintmark that distinguishes this variety from other 1954-D RPM entries in the VarietyVista catalog. Struck in bronze, the 1954-D Wheat Cent was produced in large numbers at Denver, making well-attributed examples of the triple-punch RPM-005 particularly noteworthy for variety specialists.
