1954-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001
Error
Description
Cross-referenced as Fivaz-Stanton FS-501, this VarietyVista-documented Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent holds the primary catalog position for the 1954-D date with a D/D/D North, South triple-punched mintmark. Die markers UVC-507 / DMR-002 track five stages with an unusual secondary mintmark visibility pattern: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with medium secondary mintmark south at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage C with weak secondary mintmark south at LMDS and reverse at LMDS; Stage D with missing secondary mintmark south at LDS and reverse at LDS; Stage E with stronger secondary mintmark north at VLDS, a die crack on tail of 9 of date, and reverse at VLDS. The Stage E reappearance of a stronger north secondary mintmark after the south component vanished documents how die wear can eliminate one displacement while exposing another previously hidden beneath die flow metal. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams.
