1953-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-011

Description

Attributed by VarietyVista under UVC-490 and DMR-015, the 1953-S Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-011 is a three-stage die variety with a well-documented early die state. Stage A (EDS) presents a cluster of early diagnostic markers: a die crack running left of the wheat lines at a very light die state (VLDS), an additional crack through the right wheat grains, and a die chip positioned at the T of CENT. These three simultaneous markers — crack, crack, and chip — in Stage A provide collectors with a high-confidence early identification checkpoint before the die transitions into its middle and late states. Stage B (MDS) and Stage C (LDS) are both currently unconfirmed, meaning additional specimens in those states are needed to complete the die-state progression record. San Francisco cents from 1953 are readily available in circulated grades and appear regularly in dealer stocks, making this a variety accessible to determined searchers. The die chip at T of CENT in the EDS state is arguably the most visually distinctive marker for initial screening, as die chips create a raised bump on struck coins that is detectable even at moderate magnification.
