1953 Proof Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1953 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1953 proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class I clockwise (CW) spread appears on IN GOD WE TRUST, the lower queue, the designer's initials, the date and LIBERTY. On the obverse, a short diagonal gouge sits on the nose left of the eye, and left of the hair that lies directly left of the ear there are two short gouges. On the reverse, a short gouge heads south off the C in AMERICA from its upper right. John A. Wexler submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-O-V. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
