1953 Proof Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-001

Description

1953 WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1953 proof Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A close spread toward the center appears on the lower leaves, the wreath stems, UNITED, AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR. On the obverse, at the rim, beside the top of the B in LIBERTY on its left, there is a strong gouge, and between the E and R a heavy gouge follows the rim. On the reverse, between the R and T in QUARTER there are two short vertical scratches, and near the rim, under the O in DOLLAR toward its left side, there is a gouge (dot). Dale Ericson submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
