The 1953-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse (DDO) variety, where a misalignment during the die hubbing process created visible doubling on the obverse design elements. This variety was discovered on the 1953 (D) Jefferson Nickel, part of the Jefferson Nickels Original Design 1938-2003 series. Die markers: Obverse: Diagonal die scratch through upper half of B of LIBERTY. Reverse: Die gouge (dot) at bottom of small right window; diagonal die gouge from lower right bottom of R of AMERICA; almost horizontal die scratch under ME of AMERICA.
