Description
1953-D WDDR-001 is a doubled die reverse on the 1953-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong Class I counterclockwise (CCW) spread appears on the lower wreath, E PLURIBUS UNUM, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and QUARTER DOLLAR. On the obverse, two short gouges head SE off the 3 in the date from its upper left. On the reverse, a short, deep SW/NE gouge sits mid-wing on the eagle's right wing, far to the east of the U in UNITED. Gary Wagnon submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 1-R-I, and its Cherrypickers number is FS-25-1953D-801 (022.2). Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
