1952-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-020

Description

Displaying an S/S/S East, West triple-punched mintmark, this 1952-S Lincoln Wheat Cent was documented by VarietyVista with the opposing East and West displacements indicating the S punch was applied at least three times with lateral shifts in both directions. Die markers UVC-1135 / DMR-025 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with a die gouge near the rim south of the mintmark and reverse at MDS; Stage C at LMDS with the obverse in late-mid state and a light die crack from the lower right wheat to the rim; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The four-stage documentation indicates extended die service. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at the San Francisco Mint during the Korean War era with Victor David Brenner's obverse design approaching its fifth decade of production.
