Description

Recorded by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent displays the 16th cataloged repunched S mintmark for the 1952-S date. Die markers UVC-449 / DMR-018 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die crack on 9 of date at LMDS, a die crack north-south in hair, heavy die cracks on forehead, and numerous fine die scratches south-southwest on reverse at MDS; Stage C with the die crack on 9 of date developing a die chip between 9 and 5 at LDS, a die crack along lapel fold, an additional die crack on forehead, a die chip in lower right wheat grains at LMDS, and different die scratches southwest on reverse. The shift from fine scratches at Stage B to different scratches at Stage C suggests reverse die resurfacing or progressive wear patterns. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm.
