1952-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-014

Description

An S/S East variety documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent records a reverse die change and two separate UVC pairings. Die markers UVC-447 / DMR-016: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with a die crack on the forehead at MDS, very strong die scratches north-south through 19 of the date, and reverse at LDS. Then UVC-3048 / DMR-029: Stage C with a small die chip on the back of 9 of the date at LMDS and the reverse die changed at EDS; Stage D with a die crack from 9 to 5 of the date at LDS and die scratches north-south in C of CENT at MDS. The very strong die scratches cutting through the 19 digits provide a powerful Stage B attribution marker. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck during the Korean War era when San Francisco Mint cent production supplemented Philadelphia and Denver output.
