Description

Bearing an S/S/S East, Lower Serif triple-punched mintmark, this VarietyVista-documented 1952-S Lincoln Wheat Cent from San Francisco tracks five stages across two die pairings. Die markers UVC-435 / DMR-004: Stage A with die scratches north-south in front of profile and reverse at EDS; Stage B with die clash at throat at EMDS and die gouge in lower right wheat to rim; Stage C with light die crack over V.D.B. at MDS, die gouge through first U of UNUM, and die clash through N of CENT. UVC-1809 / DMR-021: Stage D with obverse at LMDS and reverse die changed at LMDS; Stage E at LDS (unconfirmed). The die clash evidence at both throat and CENT inscription documents mutual design transfer between obverse and reverse dies during a misfire. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the triple-punch direction notation "East, Lower Serif" precisely locates the displacement relative to the S letterform.
