1952-S Repunched Mintmark WRPM-013

Description

Multiple die markers across both sides of the coin distinguish this 1952-S Jefferson Nickel WRPM-013 from other repunched mintmark varieties for the date. On the obverse, die gouges can be found to the left of the upper 1 in the date, providing a secondary diagnostic beyond the repunched S mintmark itself. The reverse carries particularly strong markers: N/S die scratches appear above the left arch and running through the right arch of Monticello, parallel die scratches run ENE from the top right of the second S in STATES, and additional die scratches can be found throughout the reverse. Cross-referenced as 1952-S 5¢ WRPM-013 and attributed by the Wexler Team. The extensive network of reverse die scratches running in multiple directions across Monticello's architectural details and the surrounding lettering makes this die readily identifiable even before examining the mintmark area. Felix Schlag's detailed rendering of Thomas Jefferson's Virginia home, with its columned portico and arched windows, captures and displays these die preparation marks prominently.
