1952 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark RPM-023

Description

Bearing a D/D South displacement, this VarietyVista-documented 1952-D Lincoln Wheat Cent is the 23rd cataloged RPM for the date, reflecting the Denver Mint's prolific postwar cent production. Die markers UVC-1089 / DMR-027 track four stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C with a die crack from upper mintmark to 9 of date at LMDS, die crack northwest across shoulder, die crack on forehead, die chip in hair, and die chips on T of CENT at LMDS; Stage D with obverse at LDS and stronger die chips on T of CENT at LDS. The mintmark-to-date die crack at Stage C provides a distinctive diagnostic linking the RPM area directly to the date numerals. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1952-D had a substantial mintage exceeding 746 million pieces.
