Description

Bearing a D/D/D West, Lower Serif triple-punched mintmark, this VarietyVista-documented 1952-D Lincoln Wheat Cent from Denver tracks four stages with concurrent die clash evidence. Die markers UVC-421 / DMR-012: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse at EMDS and die gouge in field east of the lower T of CENT at EMDS; Stage C with light die crack on forehead at LMDS, light die crack in hair, light die clash at throat, die crack east of the lower T of CENT, die chips on the stem and right crossbar of the T of CENT, and die clash through C of CENT at LMDS; Stage D with die crack from shoulder to rim west of V.D.B. at VLDS and reverse at VLDS. The dual die clash evidence at throat and C of CENT documents mutual design transfer between die faces during production misfires. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the "Lower Serif" designation precisely locates the displacement relative to the D letter's base.
