1952-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-007

Description

Seventh in the VarietyVista catalog of 1952-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPMs, documented under UVC-417 and DMR-008. Four die states trace the die's working life from early production through advanced deterioration. Stage A presents both obverse and reverse in early die state. Stage B advances to MDS with developing markers on both sides. Stage C shows further progression into LDS as die fatigue accumulates. Stage D reaches VLDS, documenting the die at or near the end of its usable life, where accumulated cracks and surface breakdown compromise strike quality. The four-stage record provides an unusually thorough die life history, useful for researchers tracking how specific RPM characteristics change as the die wears — secondary mintmark impressions may become more or less visible depending on die deterioration patterns. Denver produced 746,130,000 Lincoln Wheat Cents in 1952, a massive output requiring hundreds of die pairs and creating abundant material for die variety research. The hand-punched D mintmark era continued through the 1950s.
