1951-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-013

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent displays an S/S West repunched mintmark where the initial punch landed slightly east before a corrective second application. Die markers UVC-1095 / DMR-019 track three progressive stages: Stage A with die scratches North-South on obverse and neck at EDS, reverse at EDS; Stage B with a die gouge Northeast from upper L of LIBERTY at MDS, two long parallel die scratches Northwest in front of nose, reverse at MDS; Stage C with obverse and reverse at LDS. The transition from directional scratches at EDS through the prominent LIBERTY gouge at MDS to generalized late-state wear documents a complete die lifecycle. Struck in 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1951-S was produced during the Korean War era at the San Francisco facility.
