1951 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-002

Description

1951 WDDO-002 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting from about 8:00 appears on the lower queue, the designer's initials, the date and LIBERTY. On the obverse, a scratch heads NE off the 5 in the date from its lower right, a short, strong gouge sticks out from the rim left of the T in LIBERTY, and a scratch heads NE off the upper back of the queue. On the reverse, a strong scratch joins the tops of the Q and U in QUARTER, a short scratch heads east from the middle of the T in UNITED, and inside the lower R in AMERICA a scratch runs SW/NE. Joe Feld submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
