1951 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-001

Description

1951 WDDO-001 is a doubled die obverse on the 1951 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong counterclockwise (CCW) spread pivoting from about 8:00 appears on the lower queue, the designer's initials, the date and LIBERTY. On the obverse, two parallel scratches head north off the forehead below the I of LIBERTY, left of the upper R there is a small gouge, a crack crosses the upper forehead heading east and runs into the hair, and another crack crosses the bust's base. On the reverse, a crack descends the eagle's right wing, and on the upper left wing below the AMER of AMERICA there is a crack. Kevin Flynn submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 4-O-V, and Crawford as CDDO-001. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
