Description

Displaying a D/D Southeast displacement, this VarietyVista-documented 1951-D Lincoln Wheat Cent features a distinctive die gouge dot marker visible from early die state onward. Die markers UVC-391 / DMR-038 track four stages: Stage A with a die gouge dot over the right upright of the Y of LIBERTY at EDS, reverse at MDS; Stage B with obverse at MDS, reverse at LMDS; Stage C with obverse at LMDS and a die crack in upper right wheat grains at LDS; Stage D at LDS (unconfirmed). The LIBERTY gouge dot appearing at EDS provides an immediately attributable marker throughout the die's entire service life. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at the Denver Mint during the Korean War era. The 32nd cataloged RPM for this date reflects the substantial die population generated by Denver's postwar cent production.
