1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-016

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent provides a detailed three-stage demonstration of mintmark attenuation. Die markers UVC-372 / DMR-019: Stage A with medium secondary mintmark at EDS, a light die scratch between upper E of WE and the first T of TRUST, and reverse at EDS; Stage B with weak secondary mintmark at MDS and reverse at MDS; Stage C with very weak secondary mintmark at LDS, die crack on forehead to eye, die chip on right crossbar of the T of CENT at LDS, and die chip outside left wheat lines. The forehead-to-eye die crack and the T of CENT die chip at Stage C provide strong late-stage attribution markers beyond the primary RPM. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1951-D had a massive mintage exceeding 625 million pieces, generating a large die population where RPM varieties are relatively accessible.
