1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-012

Description

Attributed by VarietyVista with die codes UVC-367 and DMR-014, the 1951-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-012 is a repunched mintmark variety from the Denver Mint struck in 95% bronze. The Lincoln Wheat cent series ran from 1909 through 1958, and 1951-D saw high production output. The repunch on RPM-012 is not characterized by a directional label in available data, making die-marker confirmation particularly important for reliable attribution. Three die stages are documented: Stage A shows the obverse in early die state while the reverse has already advanced to mid-die state, indicating earlier reverse die wear. Stage B shows the obverse advancing to mid-die state with a die chip developing in the upper left wheat grains at late-mid die state (LMDS) — a reliable secondary marker. Stage C is a late die state (unconfirmed). The die chip in the upper left wheat grains during Stage B and beyond is visually accessible and serves as a strong anchor for attribution beyond the mintmark repunch alone. Collectors hunting this RPM should use a loupe on the mintmark area while watching the left wheat stalk for the characteristic chip.
