1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

Displaying a D/D/D Northeast, West triple-punched mintmark, this 1951-D Lincoln Wheat Cent was documented by VarietyVista with progressive die chip growth on the reverse T of CENT. Die markers UVC-362 / DMR-009: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse at MDS and small die chips on T of CENT at MDS; Stage C with a light die crack over V.D.B. at LDS and stronger die chips on T of CENT at LDS. The die chips on the T progressing from small at Stage B to stronger at Stage C document measurable structural degradation in the inscription area. The die crack over Brenner's designer initials provides a late-state obverse attribution marker. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, struck at the Denver Mint during the early 1950s when Wheat Cent production was entering its final decade before the Memorial reverse replaced it in 1959.
