1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-006
Error
Description
Documented by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint 1951-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-006 tracks five stages with die scratches on both faces that evolve independently. Die markers UVC-360 / DMR-007: Stage A with light die scratches north-south on obverse at EDS and light die scratches east-west on reverse at EDS; Stage B with obverse and reverse die scratches weakening at EMDS; Stage C with obverse at MDS and new light die scratches east-west on reverse at MDS; Stage D with obverse at LMDS and light die scratch from right crossbar of T of CENT to last S of STATES at LMDS; Stage E with die chip on back of 9 of date at LDS and depression on T of CENT at LDS. The appearance of new reverse die scratches at Stage C after the original scratches faded at Stage B suggests the die received additional handling or maintenance between stages. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, this variety documents the interplay between die preparation artifacts and production wear.
