1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-005

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1951-D Lincoln Wheat Cent from the Denver Mint displays a repunched D mintmark on a post-war bronze cent. Die markers UVC-359 / DMR-006 track three stages: Stage A with obverse and reverse at EDS; Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS with a die crack over V.D.B. (Brenner's initials), a very light die crack in the hair, and the reverse at LDS. The V.D.B. die crack at LDS follows a classic Lincoln Cent deterioration pattern, as the small initials occupy a high-stress zone at the bust truncation. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, Denver's D mintmark required manual punch application at Philadelphia before the dies were shipped west for production.
