Error
Description
Documented by VarietyVista with a D/D/D West, Serifs displacement, this Denver Wheat Cent carries a triple-punched D where three punch impressions are visible at the serif details. Die markers: UVC-357, DMR-004. Stage A: Obverse is EDS; die chip on T of CENT — MDS. Stage B: Obverse is MDS; die break in right wheat grains — LDS. Stage C: LDS (unconfirmed). The die break in the wheat grains alongside the obverse at MDS indicates the reverse deteriorated faster than its paired obverse. Triple-punched mintmarks at the serifs document two correction attempts, creating layered overlap most evident at the D's fine serif terminals. Struck in 1951, composed of 95% copper, 5% tin/zinc (3.11 g, 19.05 mm), with each Denver die receiving its D by hand at Philadelphia.
